One of the things I love most about shopping at independently owned businesses is the personal care - how flexible they can be, how they listen, and how they make you feel like more than just an order number. Nana's Creperie reminded me of that in the best possible way this holiday season.
Last year, we had their Christmas Cranberry Crepe Cake, and I’ve been thinking about it ever since. I assumed it was an annual holiday offering, so when I didn’t see it available online this year, I gave them a call to ask when orders would open. They told me they were featuring a different cranberry dessert this season, a cranberry Basque cheesecake (which also looks incredible!), but I had my heart set on the crepe cake. That delicate balance of cream and cranberries, with just the right amount of sweetness, had truly stayed with me all year.
I shared how much we had loved the cake, and they kindly took my number and said they’d let me know if they decided to bring it back. They explained that they enjoy offering new items each year and that their Basque cheesecakes are especially popular, but they also mentioned they already had all the ingredients for the crepe cake.
Just a few days later, I received a text saying the Christmas Cranberry Crepe Cake was available again. I placed my order immediately.
That kind of thoughtfulness and flexibility simply wouldn’t happen at a big chain. Huge thanks to Nana’s Creperie for being such a wonderful neighbourhood bakery. They have a tall order to fill making a cake that’s as good as it is my dreams, but I’m confidant it will be just as yummy as I remember it!
